Partial Curve Matching under the Fréchet Distance∗

چکیده
Curve matching is a fundamental problem which occurs in many applications. In this paper, we extend the Fréchet distance to measure partial curve similarity, study its properties, and develop efficient algorithms to compute it. In particular, under the L1 or L∞ metrics, we present an algorithm to compute, in O(m2) time, the partial Fréchet distance between a segment and a polygonal curve of size m. We then develop an approximation algorithm that, in O((n+m)3/ε2) time, computes a (1− ε)approximation to the optimal partial Fréchet distance between two polygonal curves of size n and m, respectively. Finally, we propose a third algorithm that, in near quadratic time, computes a (constant) double-sided error approximation to the optimal partial Fréchet distance.

A faster algorithm for matching planar maps under the weak Fréchet distance
We consider the problem of matching a polygonal curve of complexity p with an arbitrary curve on an embedded planar graph of complexity q. With the large amount of GPS and location trace data that have become available in recent years, algorithms for such problems have become increasingly important. Direct applications include matching a GPS trace to a given roadmap and indirect applications in...
متن کاملExact algorithms for partial curve matching via the Fréchet distance
Curve matching is a fundamental problem that occurs in many applications. In this paper, we study the problem of measuring partial similarity between curves. Specifically, given two curves, we wish to maximize the total length of subcurves that are close to each other, where closeness is measured by the Fréchet distance, a common distance measure for curves. The resulting maximal length is call...
متن کاملOn the inverse maximum perfect matching problem under the bottleneck-type Hamming distance
Given an undirected network G(V,A,c) and a perfect matching M of G, the inverse maximum perfect matching problem consists of modifying minimally the elements of c so that M becomes a maximum perfect matching with respect to the modified vector. In this article, we consider the inverse problem when the modifications are measured by the weighted bottleneck-type Hamming distance. We propose an alg...

where α and β range over all continuous non-decreasing functions with α(0) = β(0) = 0 and α(1) = β(1) = 1, and d′ is a distance metric between points. The functions α and β are also refereed to as reparametrizations. We call (α, β) a matching between P and Q. The Fréchet distance is described intuitively by a man walking a dog on a leash. The man follows a curve (path), and the dog follows anot...

To facilitate the damping matching of dampers for vehicle passive suspensions, this paper proposes an analytical matching method of the optimal piecewise linear damping characteristics curve. Based on the vehicle vibration model, taking the suspension dynamic deflection as the constraint, by the vibration acceleration and the wheel dynamic load, an objective function about the relative damping ...
